Studio or mobile

If you live in Midwood, you’re close enough to walk to your spray tan. There’s no franchise counter, no booth and no stranger with a spray gun. It’s Rosie in her own studio, doing every tan herself, the way she has for more than ten years.
Most of the neighborhood knows the studio the way people know a good sheitel macher or a tailor on Avenue J: someone tells a sister, the sister tells a friend from shul, and by the following Sunday there’s a waiting list. This page is for those of you who searched instead. It covers what the studio is like, when to come, and how the neighborhood’s calendar shapes the schedule.
A private studio, not a salon floor
The studio is in 11229, on a residential Midwood block. Rosie keeps the street address off the website and texts it to you once you’re booked. That isn’t a gimmick. Many of the women who come here prefer that nobody can look up where they get undressed. Here it’s Rosie and you, one client at a time, with a door that closes.
Wear whatever you’re comfortable in: a bathing suit, underwear, or the disposables Rosie keeps on hand. If you’ll be wearing a wig or tichel, mention it when you book so she can plan around the hairline.
What happens in your twenty minutes
Rosie looks at your skin before she touches the solution. Olive skin that pulls green in fluorescent light, fair skin that freckles, deeper skin that wants warmth rather than more depth: each gets a different blend. The solution is vegan, paraben-free and DHA-based, and nothing harsh is added. She sprays in sections, checks the backs of your knees and the insides of your wrists (the spots that give a cheap tan away), and dries you before you dress.
The color keeps developing for about 8 hours. Your first rinse comes after that: lukewarm water, no soap. Most clients see 7 to 10 days of color with daily moisturizer. If you want the take-home kit with tan-safe soap, an extender and natural lotions, book the Spray Tan + session instead.
When Midwood books, and when to call
The studio runs on the same calendar as the neighborhood. A few patterns are worth knowing before you text.
- Sundays fill first. Sunday is a full day here (9 AM to 8 PM), and it’s the day working women and students can actually come. If you need Sunday, text by Wednesday.
- Fridays end early. The studio closes an hour before sunset. In December that means wrapping up mid-afternoon; in June it’s early evening. Friday morning is the classic slot for a Sunday wedding guest, because Day 2 lands on the simcha.
- Before Pesach and before the summer. The weeks before families leave for Pesach programs, and the weeks before school lets out and the shore houses open, are the busiest of the year. Book two weeks ahead.
- Yom Tov seasons. The studio is closed on Shabbat and Jewish holidays, so the days between Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot are short and crowded. Plan around them early.
Who comes in from around the corner
A typical week in the Midwood studio brings in a mix of women from the neighborhood:
Kallahs and their mothers
Midwood has a lot of weddings, and many of the brides live within a few blocks. The usual plan is a trial four to six weeks out, then the wedding tan two days before. If mikvah timing is part of your week, Rosie builds the schedule around whatever your kallah teacher or rav tells you; the kallah spray tan page explains how that usually works. Mothers often book the same afternoon, a shade or two softer.
Simcha guests and sisters
Sheva brachos, a bar mitzvah, an engagement party in someone’s living room on East Ninth: plenty of tans here are for the guests rather than the guest of honor. Sisters often book back to back so they can drive home together.
Brooklyn College students and first-timers
Campus is a short ride up the Q or a walk along Avenue H, and graduation and formal season bring in first-timers. If you’ve never had a tan and you’re worried about turning orange, say so. Rosie will go lighter, and you can build up next time.
Why not the tanning place on the avenue?
Brooklyn has quicker and cheaper options, and some of them are fine for a base color before a beach week. The difference here is that the person who mixes your blend is the person who sprays it, every time. Rosie doesn’t run a team or hand you off to a trainee. If your skin reacted badly to a booth tan, tell her. And if you’re pregnant or have eczema or another skin condition, check with your doctor first; Rosie will happily wait for the go-ahead.
Prices are the same for everyone and are posted openly: $100 for a Spray Tan, $150 for the Spray Tan + with the take-home kit, $50 for Face Only. Bridal trials are $120. For full details see services and prices, or the bridal hub if you’re planning a wedding.
Your first visit, start to finish
If you’ve never had a spray tan, here’s the whole thing from the day before to the morning after.
- The day before. Exfoliate and shave or wax, so the color goes on fresh skin and doesn’t sit in dry patches.
- The day of. Arrive clean and dry, with no lotion, deodorant, perfume or makeup. Bring the loosest dark outfit you own, and slip-on shoes.
- In the studio. A few minutes of talking about your skin and the event, then about twenty minutes of spraying and drying. You leave looking a little darker than the final result, which is normal.
- That evening. No workout, no dishes, no bath. After about 8 hours, a lukewarm rinse with no soap, and pat dry.
- The next day. Moisturize. By the day after that, Day 2, the color is at its most natural, which is why event tans go on two days ahead.
Booking
There’s no online calendar; Rosie books every appointment herself. Call or text, say what the tan is for and the date of the event, and she’ll tell you which day to come in. If you need to move it, give at least 24 hours’ notice; the policies page has the details. Coming from just over the line in Flatbush or from the parkway side in Gravesend? It’s the same studio, a few more minutes away.

Midwood questions
Asked by neighbors
Where exactly is the Midwood studio?
It’s a private studio in Brooklyn 11229. Rosie texts the street address when your appointment is confirmed, so the location stays private for the women who use it.
Can I get a spray tan in Midwood on a Sunday?
Yes. Sunday is a full working day, 9 AM to 8 PM, and it’s usually the first day to fill. Text early in the week if you want a Sunday slot.
How far ahead should I book in Midwood?
For a regular tan, a few days is usually enough, and same-day spots do open up. For Sundays, the weeks before Pesach, and wedding season, text a week or two ahead.
Can I come on my lunch break from Kings Highway?
Yes. A standard Spray Tan takes about 20 minutes in the room. Wear loose, dark clothes and you can go straight back to work; just avoid sweating or getting wet for the next 8 hours.
