Getting here
Drive east on Kings Highway, Avenue P or Avenue U; from most of the parkway it’s a few minutes. On the F, take McDonald Avenue to Kings Highway. On the N, Kings Highway and Avenue U stations put you a short car ride away.
Studio or mobile
One or two people usually come to the Midwood studio. For a group of 5 or more, Rosie can come to you in Ocean Parkway & Gravesend; mobile visits are quoted per booking.
Ocean Parkway is the reason Rosie’s calendar looks the way it does. The blocks off the parkway between Kings Highway and Avenue U, with the side streets running out to McDonald Avenue and East Fifth, are home to Brooklyn’s Syrian and wider Sephardic community, and their simcha calendar sets the studio’s busiest weeks.
Rosie is shomer Shabbat, and she has spent more than ten years tanning brides, mothers and sisters from these blocks. You don’t have to explain why Friday ends early, why the week before Pesach is packed, or why everyone needs a tan the same Sunday in June. This page is for the parkway and for the older Gravesend blocks to the west, whose Italian-American families have their own weddings and christenings.
From the parkway to the studio
Olmsted and Vaux designed Ocean Parkway as a grand boulevard, with tree-lined malls on both sides of the main road and one of the country’s earliest bike paths. In practice it’s a north–south road with service lanes and traffic lights at every avenue. To reach the studio, you cross it. Kings Highway, Avenue P and Avenue U each take you east into Midwood, and from most of the parkway it’s a short drive once Rosie texts you the address.
If you’re coming by train, the F runs along McDonald Avenue with stops at Avenue N, Avenue P, Kings Highway, Avenue U and Avenue X. The N runs further west through Gravesend with stops at Kings Highway and Avenue U. Neither drops you at the studio door, so most parkway clients drive or get dropped off.

Engagements and the l’chaim
Engagements here move fast, and the first party often comes within days. A Face Only tan ($50) is a quick fix when there’s no time to plan, and it blends with whatever color you already have on your arms.
Henna week
The henna is its own event, often with its own dress and its own photographer. Some kallahs tan once for both the henna and the wedding. Others tan twice: once for the henna and again two days before the wedding. Which one makes sense depends on how many days apart they fall. The henna and sheva brachot page lays out both schedules.
The wedding and the mikvah
Many kallahs ask whether a tan is a chatzitzah and when to tan around tevilah. Rosie doesn’t give halachic rulings. The widely cited preference is tevilah first, tan after, which fits the standard bridal timing of a tan two days before the wedding. Ask your kallah teacher or rav, and Rosie will build the schedule around whatever they tell you. The kallah spray tan page goes into more detail.
Sheva brachot
A wedding tan fades over 7 to 10 days, which covers most of sheva brachot if you moisturize. If you want a refresh for the last night, a Face Only tan evens out the color where it fades first.
What to tell Rosie when you call
Planning a kallah’s week takes one phone call if you have the details ready. Before you text, write down:
- The wedding date, and the henna date if there is one.
- Whatever your kallah teacher or rav has told you about the mikvah and timing.
- The color of the gown and the henna outfit.
- How many women in the family want a tan, and whether they’d rather come to Midwood or have Rosie come to the house.
- Whether the week falls close to a Yom Tov or right before the move to Deal.
With that, Rosie can suggest a trial date, a wedding-tan date and a plan for the rest of the family in one conversation.
Color for olive and golden skin
Many women on the parkway already have warm, olive or golden undertones. A common mistake is adding more of the same, which pushes skin toward orange or muddy. Rosie often goes the other way, choosing a blend that deepens without warming, so the result looks like a week in the sun rather than a bottle. If you’ve been burned by a bad tan before, bring a photo of the color you want.
Spring rush, summer move
- Before Pesach. Families heading to Pesach programs want to arrive looking rested. The studio is very full in the two weeks before, so call early.
- June. School ends, and the move to the shore begins. A tan the week before you leave carries you through your first weekend down there.
- July and August. Many parkway families are in Deal, and Rosie serves the shore by appointment. The Deal, NJ page covers how summer bookings work, and this journal piece tells the story of the summer move.
Prices are on the services page, and bridal packages are quoted individually; start at the bridal hub. A $150 deposit holds a bride’s date. If you’re on the Bensonhurst side of the N, the Bensonhurst page has your route.

Ocean Parkway & Gravesend questions
Asked by neighbors
Should a kallah tan before or after the mikvah?
Views differ, and Rosie doesn’t rule on it. The widely cited preference is tevilah first, tan after, which fits a tan two days before the wedding. Ask your kallah teacher or rav, and Rosie will build the schedule around whatever they tell you.
What day should I tan for a henna?
Two days before the henna if you want to peak that night, or tan once for both if the henna and the wedding are close together. Tell Rosie both dates and she’ll work it out with you.
Can Rosie come to a house on Ocean Parkway for the whole family?
Yes, when there are at least 5 people. Mobile visits are quoted per booking, based on headcount, date and time. Sisters, mothers, aunts and grandmothers are all welcome.
Is the studio open motzei Shabbat?
The studio’s regular hours are Sunday to Thursday 9 AM to 8 PM and Friday until an hour before sunset. It’s closed on Shabbat. If you have a special timing question, call and ask.
