Spray Tan for Sheva Brachot: Keeping Your Glow All Week

Your wedding tan goes on two days before the chuppah, so it is at its best on the wedding night and the first few sheva brachot, and noticeably softer by the last. Gentle care keeps it even. A light top-up around the middle of the week, timed for the meal you care most about, keeps the glow to the end.
Sheva brachot is seven days of festive meals after the wedding, often with a Shabbat sheva brachot in the middle and a new crowd of family and friends at every table. You are photographed more that week than at any time except the wedding itself, usually close up, usually seated, and often under restaurant or dining-room light. Here is how to plan for it.
How your wedding tan ages over the week
Count from the day your tan went on (Day 0). If it was two days before the wedding, the chuppah is Day 2 and the last sheva brachot is around Day 8 or 9. A tan typically lasts 7–10 days with good care.
- Wedding night (Day 2). The colour is settled, soft and at its most natural. This is the version in your album.
- First half of the week (Days 3–5). Still lovely. Most people will not notice any change.
- Second half (Days 6–9). The tan softens. It fades first where skin is washed or rubbed most: hands, wrists, feet, elbows, and anywhere a strap or waistband sits.
Nothing here goes wrong suddenly. A good tan fades gradually and evenly. The aim for the week is to slow that down and, if you want, to give it one lift in the middle.
Care that makes the tan last
- Short, lukewarm showers. Long hot showers and baths speed up fading.
- Tan-safe soap, no scrubs. Skip exfoliating gloves, scrubs and anything with acids until you are ready to let the tan go.
- Pat dry, then moisturise every day. Dry skin sheds faster, and the tan goes with it.
- Mind the hands. There is a lot of hand washing in a week of festive meals. Dry your hands by patting rather than rubbing, and put on hand cream afterwards when you can.
- Watch the pool. If you are spending the week at the shore or at a hotel, chlorine and long swims fade a tan quickly.
If you booked the Spray Tan + ($150) for your wedding, this is the week its take-home kit earns its keep: tan-safe soap, a tan extender to refresh the colour as it fades, and natural lotions to keep the skin from drying out.
Your makeup will need to follow the tan
One thing kallahs rarely think about: if your makeup artist matched your foundation to your Day-2 wedding tan, the same shade can look a touch dark against your neck by the end of the week as your body fades. If you are doing your own makeup for the later meals, keep a slightly lighter foundation or a bit of moisturiser to sheer it out, and check your face against your neck and chest in daylight before you leave. If you are booking a professional for the Shabbat sheva brachot, tell her how old your tan is.
A small kit for the week
Keep these in the bag that travels between your parents’ home, your in-laws and wherever you are staying: a tan-safe soap, a fragrance-free moisturiser, a hand cream, a soft towel you do not mind marking, and a tan extender if you have one. It is a short list, and it does most of the work.
The midweek top-up
A top-up is a styling choice, not a requirement. Many kallahs are happy with a softening tan by the end of the week. If there is one meal you especially want to glow for (the Shabbat sheva brachot, or a big evening hosted by the chatan’s family), work backwards from it.
When
The same Day-2 rule applies: the top-up looks most natural about two days after it goes on. So if the meal you care about is on Thursday night, a Tuesday top-up is ideal. Leave at least a couple of days after the wedding before topping up, so the new layer goes onto settled colour rather than fresh colour.
Which service
- Face Only, $50, about 15 minutes. Face, neck and hairline. At a seated dinner, this is most of what anyone sees.
- Spray Tan, $100, about 20 minutes. A full, light layer, blended so the refreshed areas match the parts that have held up.
Tell Rosie it is a top-up over a wedding tan. She will usually go a little lighter than the wedding shade, so the new colour sits evenly over the old instead of building up in patches. Ask her whether to do any gentle exfoliation beforehand, since that depends on how your tan has faded.
When Shabbat is in the middle
Rosie is shomer Shabbat, and the studio is closed on Shabbat and Yom Tov. A top-up before a Shabbat sheva brachot needs to go on early enough that it has developed and had its first rinse before candle lighting. In summer, a Friday-morning appointment can work; in winter, when Shabbat starts in the late afternoon, plan for Thursday.
Plan your aftercare so nothing depends on it over Shabbat either. Whether and how you may use creams or lotions on Shabbat is a question for your rav; the simplest plan is to moisturise well before Shabbat and not count on lotion until motzei Shabbat. Our guide to spray tan timing before Shabbat and Yom Tov has the hours.
The family, again
Sheva brachot hosts are usually family: your mother, your mother-in-law, sisters, aunts. If several of them want to look as fresh as they did at the wedding, a group top-up is easy to arrange. Bridal party tans are $120 per person, and for five or more people Rosie can come to you. Married women with a mikvah night that week can just mention a day to work around; nobody will ask why.
If your week also includes a henna
Some families hold the henna after the wedding rather than before. If yours does, plan the henna first and any top-up afterwards, working around the design. The details are in henna and spray tan: order and timing.

Prices and booking for top-ups, henna nights and l’chaims are on the henna and sheva brachot spray tan page. Or text Rosie at (917) 326-0303 with the wedding date and the one night you most want to glow. That is all she needs to plan the week.
Quick answers
Will my wedding spray tan last through sheva brachot?
It will still be there, but softer. A tan lasts about 7–10 days with care, so by the last night it is past its best, especially on the hands.
When should I book a top-up during sheva brachot?
About two days before the meal you most want to look your best at, often around the middle of the week. Avoid planning one that needs aftercare on Shabbat.
Can I top up just my face?
Yes. A Face Only tan ($50, about 15 minutes) refreshes your face, neck and hairline, which is what shows most in photos at a seated meal.
Why are my hands fading faster than the rest of me?
Hands get washed more than any other part of the body, and sheva brachot week means a lot of washing. Dry them gently and moisturise after.
